"At the heart of Bleubird is a passion for protecting the planet we love. From the outset, I had this focus in mind, and everything we now do is driven by our passion and obligation to protect our planet. Oceans, mountains & everywhere in-between. As we continue to grow, I will keep challenging everything we do, big and small. As a team we feel a profound responsibility to hold ourselves accountable, build an authentic business, and recognise our environmental and social impact. We are passionate about doing what is good for our planet – or trying to at least.
Planting trees is just one of many eco sides of Bleubird. Another huge part of Bleubird's Eco Side is the attention to detail in our packaging. We've had quite a journey with our packaging over the years and we're proud to be getting closer to being as plastic free as possible. With all our new product development, we are focused on ensuring the materials we use to create the products are of the best quality and have the lowest environmental impact possible.
Currently, we use recycled polyester fabric and organic cotton in our Venture Collection, which is also printed using water-based inks. Our Nordic Robe collection is also made from post-consumer recycled plastic bottles for the external and internal fabric. The only thing that isn’t recycled is the zips, but we’re working on that. Our Adrift, fleece, and accessories ranges are currently not recycled or organic. However, we have been working hard for the past 18 months to change this and we are excited to be launching a new collection this spring that will bring about a big change to our non-recycled polyester usage. There will always be more we can do. For now, we're focused on making sure that every decision we make with our new product development is the right one with the information we have from our research at that time.
We want to educate and inform our community on the industry we have found ourselves in and we want to ensure we do as much of the right thing as possible and share the learnings from our mistakes. We don’t think it’s possible to run a ‘sustainable’ fashion brand, but we are striving to do as much as we can to limit the negative impact we have on our planet and protect what it is we love."
